The weekend fire that claimed the life of a 70-year-old Carrollton man has been ruled as a homicide, police said Thursday.

Firefighters found the body of Alvin Driver in the living room of his Foster Street home at about 5 a.m. on Saturday.

Capt. Chris Dobbs of the Carrollton Police Department said his office opened an investigation into the death when an autopsy report from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab reported that the death was caused by someone else.

"If anyone has any information, we encourage them to give us a call," Dobbs said. "If anyone saw anything suspicious or interesting around that property between Thursday and the time of the fire, we'd like to know about it."

Dobbs said anyone with any information can call the police department at 770-834-4451.

Carrollton Fire Department Chief Jimmy Bearden said the fire was still under investigation, and no cause has been determined yet.

Bearden also said the department has determined the place of origin of the fire, but the location cannot be released yet.
