A Carrollton manufacturing industry on Friday announced plans to expand its facility, creating at least 120 new jobs and investing $26 million.

Decostar Industries, a manufacturing division of the automotive parts supplier Magna Exteriors and Interiors, will expand its Carrollton facility to include a new building on Decoma Drive. It currently employs more than 500 workers.

“Georgia’s dynamic business infrastructure continues to cultivate a growth environment that attracts and retains world leaders such as Decostar,” Gov. Nathan Deal said in a prepared statement. “Our skilled workforce international logistics network and resources for innovation ensure the state’s competitive position as a stronghold for manufacturing, and will help in our efforts to make Georgia the No. 1 place in the nation to do business.”

Decostar Industries has secured new business to produce interior and exterior automobile parts, specifically liftgates for the Nissan Rogue, a compact crossover SUV.

To accommodate the growth, a new 64,000-square-foot facility is under construction adjacent to the existing operation in Carrollton. The company will begin hiring for the new positions in the spring. The building will also be used as a distribution center.

Partners in the project included the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Carroll Tomorrow, the Carrollton Payroll Development Authority, the city of Carrollton and Georgia Power.

“We are very appreciative of the city of Carrollton leadership and the Carrollton Payroll Development Authority for stepping up to make the project work on the community level,” said Carroll Tomorrow CEO Daniel Jackson. “This is just another example of our community’s ability to be proactive toward our existing industries when creating new jobs.”

The project represents a total payroll investment of more than $35 million, with average salaries ranging from $50-65,000 for engineering, manufacturing, research and development and administrative positions, said Brian Dill, vice president of Economic Development and Global Commerce for Carroll Tomorrow, a public-private economic development organization.

“As the first major recruitment project for Carroll Tomorrow, we have been very proud of the growth of Decostar,” said Loy Howard, chairman of Carroll Tomorrow. “We look forward to the opportunities this expansion provides for our local work force.”

Carrollton Mayor Wayne Garner said he is “very proud” of the success Decostar has enjoyed in the community.

“We stand ready to assist them in their continued prosperity for the benefit for our citizens,” Garner said.

Bob Brownlee, president of Canada-based Magna Exteriors and Interiors, for which Decostar supplies auto parts, said collaboration was important in the project, as well as finding common goals.

“We are pleased to be able to bring additional jobs and investment to the Carrollton area, and we look forward to continued success in the service of our customers,” Brownlee said.

The commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Chris Cummiskey, said the expansion should add to the competitiveness of Georgia’s automotive industry.

“Not only is this expansion a great addition to Georgia’s automotive sector, but Decostar’s expansion is a great example of how foreign direct investment (FDI) benefits the state and why it’s a strategic focus for us,” Cummiskey said. “FDI projects tend to pay higher-than-average wages, create high-quality jobs and invest for the long haul.”
