The Annual Christmas Lighted Parade will go and glow down the streets of Tallapoosa on Tuesday, Dec. 11, according to parade director Sharon Ballew, who invited businesses, churches, schools, civic organizations and individuals to enter a float this – and everyone else is encouraged to come out to watch the dazzling display.

“We’re expecting a big parade with lots of floats, including Santa,” said Ballew, who is coordinating the event for the Tallapoosa Business Association. “We want everyone in the entire family to come out and see the parade and maybe stay afterwards to do some shopping.”

Participants will assemble at 6:15 p.m. in front of the Old Tallapoosa School on Robertson Avenue and will officially start moving at 7 p.m., proceeding through downtown.

“There is no charge for entering a float, which will include the Haralson County High School Rebel Marching Band and Jolly Old St. Nick,” said Ballew. “The only rule is: All floats must have lights. Of course, we want the vehicles to be in safe running condition, and we urge drivers to observe safety precautions.”

Ballew said that entries will be judged in two different categories – business or non-business. The non-business category will include churches and other organizations and individuals. The winner in each category will receive a trophy.

“Before the parade, from 6:30 p.m. to 6:55 p.m., the West Haralson Chorus will sing Christmas carols on the steps of the First Baptist Church, located at the corner of Head Avenue and Lyon Street. After the parade, many of the stores in Tallapoosa will remain open for your shopping needs,” Ballew said.

If you would like to enter a float, or want more information, please contact Sharon Ballew at 770-574-9879 or Tommy Allen at 770-574-2482.
