Southwest Airlines Co. announced Wednesday it will close the AirTran Airways reservation call centers in Carrollton and Savannah on July 31.

The centers will be consolidated into a single facility in Atlanta.

The company said it will offer the 126 employees in Carrollton and 159 in Savannah other jobs in Atlanta or at other call centers. Employees who choose not to accept positions at the Atlanta center will be offered severance packages.

The Atlanta facility will open in May and handle all calls to AirTran, which Southwest bought last year. Eventually the center will take Southwest calls. It will be the airline’s seventh call center.

"The decision to consolidate these three centers is one more step toward the integration of Southwest and AirTran. Our new Atlanta Call Center honors AirTran's history while casting a future vision for call center operations at Southwest," said Southwest Airlines Vice President Customer Support and Services Jack Smith. "Our customer support and services employees are an important touch point for our customers, and we look forward to continuing this dedication to customer service in our expanded Atlanta Call Center as well as our other six Southwest Airlines CS&S Centers."

Southwest acquired AirTran last year.

AirTran’s Carrollton call center, which opened in 2004, is on Hay’s Mill Road, across from Tom Reeve Drive.
