The suspect in a weekend robbery who allegedly took thousands of dollars is still at large.

Carrollton Police officers responded to a residence on Tuggle Street around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Two victims, a divorced 61-year-old man and 42-year-old woman, had a bank bag containing a large amount of money that was taken by a black man who came into the woman's house and demanded the money.

Capt. Chris Dobbs with Carrollton Police Department said the woman had given the bank bag of money to her husband for safekeeping, after he told her that she could get robbed for having that much money on her person. The male victim put the bank bag in the waistband of his pants.

Later on, when the two returned to the woman's home, the suspect forced his way into their home and demanded that the man hand over the money.

The two men fought until the suspect eventually overtook the victim, took the money and fled the home.

The suspect ran across Maple Street to the parking lot of Southridge Apartments, the victim who chased him said. He jumped a fence behind the apartment complex, and the victim was no longer able to follow him.

Police are still looking for the suspect, who Dobbs said was wearing a plaid shirt, blue jeans, a baseball cap and a white cloth covering his face.

Dobbs also called the situation "fishy," saying it would be interesting to see how exactly the suspect knew that the male victim would have the money on his person when he broke into the home.

"We're going to have to do some more interviews to really find out what happened," Dobbs said. "But it just seems like too big of a coincidence for him to just come in and get away with that much money."

If anyone has any information about the incident, please call CPD at 770-834-4451.
