Linda Duke

Mrs. Linda Jean Duke, 64, of 4776 County Road 80, Muscadine, Ala., passed away July 26, 2012. Mrs. Duke was born March 28, 1948, in Tallapoosa, Ga., to the late Jerry Mose and Dessie Bell Godwin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers and sister-in-law, Harvey and Ruby Bell and P.D. Bell.

She was a loving soulmate, mother and grandmother. She loved working in her garden, watching her children and puppies and traveling.

Mrs. Duke is survived by her husband, Casey Smith; children, Kelly and Rusty Breeden, Kristy Patterson and Kevin and Becky Barker, all of Muscadine; sister, Glenda and James Woody of Tallapoosa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Louise Bell of Muscadine, Charles and Joan Godwin of Ellijay and Jerry Godwin of Tallapoosa; grandchildren, Lori Barker, Holly Hughes, Lacey Barker, Stephany Barker, Bethany Barker, Sydney Spearman, Shyann Patterson and Will Breeden; great-grandchildren, Hayven Hudson and Cali Brook Langley; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Revs. Ronnie Brooks and Wayne Pike officiating. Pallbearers were Michael Ballew, Dave Southworth, Johnny Laminack, Jeffrey Puckett, Kelly Godwin, Jacob Pike, John Chandler, Scott Bell, Josh Bell and Terry Davis. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.

Carroll Newman

Raymond “Carroll” Newman, 72, of 3784 U.S. Highway 78 East, Tallapoosa, Ga., passed away Aug. 5, 2012. Mr. Newman was born in Tallapoosa on July 25, 1940, to the late Oscar Ross and Loucilla Blanks Newman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Wilma Campbell, and brother, Ivey Newman.

Carroll was a 1959 graduate of West Haralson High School, where he played basketball. He attended Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Agan Newman of Tallapoosa; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Richard Bentley of Tallapoosa; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Kathy Ivey of Cartersville; grandchildren, Hannah and Robert Padron and Chad Truitt, all of Tallapoosa, Stephanie Ivey of Kennesaw, and Kayla and Justin Jacks of Rockmart; three great-grandchildren; sister and brothers-in-law, Frances and Douglas Campbell of Tallapoosa and Buck Campbell of Cedartown; and sister-in-law, Gail Newman of Tallapoosa.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Aug. 8, 2012, at Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Kenneth Layton and Chester Pesnell officiating. Pallbearers were Carroll’s nephews: Duane Campbell, Kevin Campbell, Jason Newman, Joey Smith and Tony Smith, and his grandson, Chad Truitt. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Goolsby, Howard Deering, Rip Abney, Clellan Harris, Larry Goolsby, John Brooks and Dwayne Madden.

Interment followed in Pine Grove Church Cemetery.

Carolyn Wingo

Carolyn Davis Wingo of Bremen passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at her residence. She was born in Haralson County, Aug. 21, 1946, daughter of the late Clifford Davis and Ruby Carden Davis.

Mrs. Wingo was a retired supervisor for Sewell Manufacturing Company.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Millard Wingo; a sister, Martha Nell Parker; two brothers, C.L. “Buster” Davis and Walter “Mac” Davis.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Tommy Ward of Bremen; two grandsons, Kaleb Drew Ward and James Cody Ward of Bremen; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Harwell Reeves or Rome, Frances Parker of Waco, Evelyn and James Hicks of Buchanan, Grace and Ronnie Richardson of Bowdon, Shirley Folds of Bremen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Davis of Bremen, Jack and Judy Davis of Tallapoosa, Leon and Burdette Davis of Muscadine, Ala.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Brother Johnnie Carden officiating. Music was furnished by Greg Folds. Pallbearers were Michael Parker, Chris Dempsey, Steve Buttram, Tim Thompson, Tom Crawford and Roger Loveridge. Interment followed in the Bremen City Cemetery.

George Clifford Casey, 82, of Buchanan died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at his residence.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Hightower Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Gentry officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors.

Emma Coffman

Emma Brown Coffman of Bremen died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012. She was born in Polk County, Jan. 30, 1930, daughter of the late Clifford Brown and Dollie Elrod Brown.

Mrs. Coffman was a retired employee of the Sewell Manufacturing Company and was a member of Tallapoosa East Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren; and brothers Farrell, Howard, Raymond and Lester Brown.

Survivors include her husband of 60-plus years, Marvin Coffman of Bremen; sons, James Coffman Jr. of Bremen, Conway Coffman of Bowdon, Keith Coffman of Tallapoosa; sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Ollie Locklear of Yorkville; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen with the Revs. Richard Brannon and Mason Bush officiating. Music was by the Loyd Locklear Family. The grandsons, Chris Coffman, Terry Coffman, Austin Coffman, D. J. Coffman, Christopher Britt, Jeremy Britt, Austin Layhue and Nathan Worthy served as pallbearers. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Gail Underwood

Elizabeth Gail Underwood of Bremen passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, in a local hospital. She was born in Talbot County, Nov. 4, 1943, daughter of the late Wanzer Daniel and Louise Howard Daniel. Mrs. Underwood was co-owner and operator of Coast to Coast in Bremen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a infant son, Marty Duane Underwood.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Joe Underwood of Bremen; children, Randy and Beth Underwood, Brian Underwood, Melinda Gail Underwood and Danny and Susie Underwood, all of Bremen; sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen Wiggins, Geneva, Mary and Drew Weed, Buena Vista, Linda and Jonathon Kiminsoki of Phenix City, Ala.; brothers, Wanzer Daniel Jr. of Americus, Henry Daniel of Geneva; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Dr. Allen Wilburn and Dr. Corky Addison officiating. James Robinson, Mike Daniel, Vincent Weed, Ronnie Wiggins, Chad Mosley and Andrew Campbell will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Kyle Morris and Brad Brannon. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Ronald Williams

Mr. Ronald Ira Williams, 67, of Buchanan died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012. Mr. Williams was born in Bremen on Oct. 9, 1944. He was the son of the late Nathaniel J. Williams and the late Eula Marie Brooks Williams. Mr. Williams was of the Christian faith and was retired from Lockheed.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Hetling, and an infant brother.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Goldin Williams of Buchanan; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Randy Williams of Buchanan, Scott and Allison Williams of Temple and Steve and Sabrina Williams of Bremen; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Sara Williams of Tallapoosa and Allen and Ellen Williams of Buchanan; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Wendell Rush officiating. Music was rendered by the Rev. Buddy Gentry. Interment followed in Edwards Cemetery, Buchanan.
